I am refitting the doors on my 49 suburban. I have all the hinges off and I bought new springs that hold the doors open. I can't figure out how to install the springs. Are they installed with or without the hinge pins in place? Please Help out the doofus. Thanks in advance.

They can be ornery Weeds but its not bad...and sometimes they seem to just "fall into place" for me. With Tim's links above I probably shouldn't even post except for moral support!

I'd rather walk and carry a Chevy hub cap than ride in a Ferd.
I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you smile

Moral support is needed, Alvin & Weeds,

The installation procedure is not obvious. We got used to it after 3 trucks (3 sets of doors).

Be patient and careful - a helper on hand helps with the job and the swear words.

If you are good with those Old Timey homemade horseshoe/chain/ring type puzzles, you will be good at getting both of those hinges in at the same time.
Work alone, you don't want witnesses to all of the cussing, and you want to be able to lie about how much of a "piece of cake it was to put together." If someone catches you in the lie, tell them that you didn't get to fish enough last year. (Lying about fishing is always expected, tolerated, and nearly mandatory.)
Hope this helps.
Carl

Nothing goes in the round hole the slot has part of the hinge in it.
