Yep, I worked on the A-7 in Thailand, where it flew close air support. Ugly as a mud fence, but it could carry lots of payload. The 20MM Gatling gun in that big nose could really chew up a target, and the rockets were just an added bit of bang. I was an avionics technician.

Spent 8 1/2 years in the AF. Started in Lackland, then to Stewart in TN, Little Rock, Ubon Thailand, Davis Montham Arizona, Osan Korea, Thailand (base?) and then back to Little Rock Ar. Worked on C-130 entire time as a mechanic. Mostly on A's and E's, Gunships and Droneships. Some good times and some bad ones, but it really helped me in the cycle of life.

At Nellis, The F 105 weasels sat on the flight line row across from the F111s I worked on. I wanted to work F105s since I was a kid. What a monster. I did get to pet a few. I got to watch them takeoff during red flags. Twenty four F-105s taking off in 2 ship formations at dawn really got the day started.

Supposed to be able to fly Mach 3, but the top speed was "classified". We had 14 minutes to get the alert birds in the air from Little Rock before the Russian ICBM's started dropping on our heads!

My son is active duty Staff Sargent, Heavy Maintenance Crew Chief, B-52. He has been all over the world with his planes, including a stint last year in the middle east. If you look on You Tube, there are videos from when the B-52s first got to Qutar. Its pretty impressive seeing them land and deploying the parachutes. He was telling me the usual was 120 degrees on the air field while they did their thing. That is hot working man. He was over in England for the big British air show (tatoo I think they call it). He was telling me that he had crowds around the B-52 that our country sent over the entire show. Not too bad a reputation for an old girl, lol. He is headed up to Minot, ND next week and new B-52 adventure (cold, lol).
