I have no reason to disagree with the keeping it 6 volts. Except in Kansas in the wintertime, let alone anywhere further north, it wont start below 20 degrees. Of course nowadays most of us have garages that are usually above that temp. 12 volts overcomes this issue with power to spare. I know the passion involving this issue, I have lots of friends that shake their heads when I say the above. None of them live in north North America and desire guaranteed starting in low temps.
This is why I advocate an 8 volt battery in a 6 volt system. With NO tweaking, just put the 8 volt battery in the box, you MIGHT get away with it in Kansas in the wintertime. We farmers try anything to get things working. Its not ideal though. A more balanced system, like 12 volt charging and 12 volt battery is much better. Too many uncles (now in their 90's) and parents trying to hand crank the old AD in the middle of winter because the 6 volt battery wasn't enough to get the kids to school or the husband to work. It was another generation where the Iphone wasn't the order of the day and insulated garages were only a dream of the future. It's a very real issue in some parts of the world. Cant we all just get along? lol
