Oh, I see...hard to say what the value will be, as it all depends on the buyer, and how long down the road. It has already been discussed on other forums that the new and younger generations are not into cars anymore like we are...many don't buy cars, pushing the big automakers to re-evaluate what they are doing...and more surprisingly...there has been a huge drop in how many 16 year old kids going to get their drivers permits each year!! So who are going to buy our toys 5...10...20 years down the road?? Do it cause you love it, and you'll be happy either way.
Personally, I would pay more for an original as possible truck, vs one with a new crate engine, drop spindles, 12 bolt rear end...etc, as it is easier to mod one like that, than it is to find one still stock...or to hunt down the parts need for a proper restoration...but what do I know!! I see restomod trifives selling for WAY more than originals...kinda of sad actually...
I took a look the pic of your tag...kinda new to this side of older Chevrolet, but it looks like it might be an original tag that was painted over to me...I'm sure someone will correct me if I am wrong. Just check out the google images, and you'll see what I mean; type in 1949 chevy pickup vin tags
If you don't plan of selling, it makes no difference what the end price will be, but even at that, I do not think you'll lose out much, BUT, if your truck is as stock as you say it is, I'd still go as close to stock as I could, and paint as little of it as possible...probably only painting the black and save the original, green paint!
