Give them the Engine number and see if they can track it that way. States used the engine numbers up to 1955 for the VIN number. If theses are original engines, they should show up, and they 80's is not that long ago!
No other number will be found on the truck, the ID tags really don't help either, they only had the model and build number which wasn't used anywhere on the title.
Stay with it even if you have to go the head office at the capital, someone will find them.
