I agree with all of you. However take a look at this picture as it shows the originial gasket that came with the water pump: Gasket doesn't fit

I saved that gasket because I couldn't figure out why I would use a gasket that only covers half the water pump. I have considered creating my own that covers the rear of the water pump completely except for the outlets and bolt holes. Thoughts or ideas?
