Great - looks like I got it all wrong and on the full flow 261 the oil pump goes straight to the diverter plug first, then the filter and only then into the gallery.
I am used to the 216 and 235 bypass filters, which are connected the other way around for flow, if you just look from the outside.

In the next couple of weeks I was planning on breaking in my new 261 ..
