Extra insulators may help but you need to be aware of the type, if they are open center (one large hole), the velocity through the individual primary venturis will be reduced, this would be opposite of what we think is needed. Also, the more you raise the carburetor, you are effectively making the intake runners longer, this would be ok in high RPM applications but not so good for streetability.
