No, it's not possible to machine that much off a stock 216 or 235 piston without seriously compromising the strength of the crown. The piston will crack or burn through almost immediately. (not conjecture- - - -I've tried it) Offset grinding and using a 40 under bearing will give your machinist fits- - - -I haven't met a "machinist" in the past 40 years who will try something like that- - - -which is why I own TWO crankshaft grinders.
