I made a welding jig to hold the thrust washers I made onto two connecting rod caps bolted together, welded them on, and cut the caps apart with a thin slotting saw. Everything was clamped into proper alignment that way, and quick, short TIG welds attached the washers to the caps with minimal distortion of the material. The alignment fixture was made of aluminum to "heat sink" the welding heat away quickly. Then the rods were reassembled and reconditioned for a proper bearing fit. Only the rod cap section needs a thrust washer to keep the bearing centered on the crankshaft journal.
