Well, didn't get any feedback on this, so this is what I did:

Engine oil inside the distributor, for the actions under the points plate, bearing/chassis lube in the hole that the bowl threads into. Not 'stuffed' but filled so that when the grease cup is turned, it will push grease in (no air space). I'm assuming this will be better than the dry cracked stuff that was there for years.
