As I mentioned in another thread, I believe the problems that recent-manufacture hydraulic lifters for stovebolt engines have with losing prime, rattling, etc. might have to do with poor quality control and inconsistent leakdown rates. All hydraulic lifters leak a little, and they must be replenished by engine oil pressure while the lifter is on the base circle of the cam lobe at minimum load. Since NOS hydraulic lifters don't have anywhere near the problems that new ones do, I believe the difference must be in where, and how they're being made. Jerry
