If they are not hanging up on those positioning tabs and you can get the plate to touch better, that's OK. There are a lot of things you could do but some may cause the studs to touch metal. Be careful. Solder won't stick to the can. Not sure what raising gauge up with shim or solder or rivet head or dimple would do to the overall assembly of gauge. Face may hit something.
