Chris, sounds good. I forgot the battery was in the floor on passenger side. So I guess you are working on the running board or a milk crate as your bench? So as not to have to remove battery?
The bench procedure is exactly for not having to take gauge and sender in and out. They are both very difficult to reach and deal with. So making sure they work out of the truck is the first step. You are now finally at the first step. Are you using forceps instead of alligator clips? smile

If you have a motorcycle, ATV, boat or riding lawn mower, you can use their 12V battery. You can use jumper cables from your truck to a table if it is easier. I always use my 12V battery charger, sometimes with a fuse, to do electrical testing on the bench.
