It is not a needle issue since the gauge is not working outside of the housing either.
I will go back and retest everything and then all together with direct wiring (no truck wiring). I appreciate the assistance with this since I am not the smartest when it comes to electrical. I have been shocked a few times and don't enjoy it! I will report back my findings. It is amazing how when you go back and start troubleshooting, you can find other issues. I know that my grounds were not up to standard, so I fixed them and added one for the fuel tank.
Question: what happens if I switch the leads? Will I hurt anything? I switched them, but removed quickly as the needle went off the gauge.
I would rather ask questions then make a costly mistake; which I have done a few times!
