True- - - - -the SMALLER or LONGER the conductor is, the more voltage loss there will be. Try putting out a house fire with a garden hose, compared to the hoses a fire truck uses. By going bigger with a conductor, there's less resistance, and more voltage gets delivered to the item that needs it. That's why 6 volt starters need BIG cables- - - -more of the battery voltage gets to where it needs to be. Ditto for bigger conductors in a shop wiring system.
