Thanks Justhorsenround. I'll try that.

I've executed Hotrod Lincoln's protocol using a test light with ignition switch on, and here are the results.

1) At coil (+) terminal: light on. PASS
2a) At coil (-) terminal, points closed: light off. PASS
2b) At coil (-) terminal, points open: light on. PASS
2c) At distributor terminal coming from coil (-) terminal, points closed: light off. PASS
3a) At coil (-) terminal, while cranking engine: light flickers on and off. PASS >>> Primary circuit = PASS
3b) Holding distributor end of coil wire close to an unpainted area of the block while opening points with a plastic spoon: no spark. FAIL

I'll do as Justhorsenround suggests and clean the ground cables and straps and try the coil wire again.

4) Regarding the distributor cap and rotor, I would say I have a short cap (about 1.25" from bottom of cap to bottom of copper contacts), and the rotor rotates, so I assume my timing gear is not stripped.

More later. Thanks guys.
