I just found a printout of a Delco "A" circuit generator/regulator system. It's from a set of Delco tech bulletins I have that dates back to the early 1950's. The dashed red line in the cutout relay winding is the magnetism-reversing shunt circuit I mentioned that assists the point-opening spring during periods of momentary reverse current as the generator voltage drops during shutdown. 6V and 12V circuits are very similar, except for the 12V "heavy duty" regulators that use two sets of contacts at the voltage regulator. The cutout relay circuit is just about identical on all of them.
