Getting the settings right can be a little frustrating, but once dialed in the Delco VR's work great. It sounds as though you are on the right track towards figuring it out. Jerry gave me great advice when setting up my 1941 NOS Delco VR/Gen system, and it works as flawlessly as an alternator system.
