Yes, it's been tried- - - -no, it didn't work well. The surges of current from the DC generator armature and the resultant voltage spikes give solid state electronics all sorts of problems. There's nothing wrong with old school technology, as long as people understand how to deal with it. Ballet dancers don't make good lumberjacks, either!
