They were stock only on big trucks (6000 series or 60 series, depending on year).

I'd get about 18 mpg at 50 mph in my 1954 1/2 ton Suburban.
I get around 12 mpg at 65 mph.
(3.55 rear-end and 31.5" diameter tires)
