I think that some filters/heads rely on a "clog" by-pass being in the filter head or in the block. I have never had a problem, but I carefully/regularly check the gauge and change the spin-on filter. I'll check the part number on my filter (I think it is a Fram), just to see if it has a by-pass in it.
