I agree. All that matters is reducing the voltage before the original switch so you dont have a smoking switch. You can use transistors for it, or power resistors, but whatever you do, include the switch. Its not the switch thats the problem. Its the 5 watt quad resistor thats attached to it. If you decide to shunt half of your voltage into neverland. I would use a 12 volt motor so there is no reduction. Even new cars put the reducing resistors in the heaters air stream for low and medium settings. Whatever you do to get there is great. As long as you understand the ramifications of what can happen if things go wrong or installed improperly. Even my 1950 AM radio is converted to 12 volt filament tubes.
