"Your alternator wiring shows the larger gauge wire going to a fused feed from the ignition switch. The two wires terminating in the DA plug would be marked #1 & #2. Number one would be a smaller gauge, and this is the wired that needs to be switched. This same wire could also go through your little lamp to provide a resistance, AND act as your 'idiot light'...or battery light as you have it noted.

for the alternator i was going off this.
http://www.6066gmcguy.org/charging.htm And what large wire are you talking about? the red wire (labled 6) goes to the battery, the purple wire goes to the idiot light, while also providing resistance and the yellow wire goes to the the fuse box (to excite the alternator) where its hooked to a acc line so it only excites the alt when the key is in start/on. is this correct?
