I converted my 57' 3100 from front drum to a power disc set up. Performance is night and day difference and has made the truck much more enjoyable to drive.

Question now is what to do with all the spare parts? Are they of any value other than scrap metal?

Hi Tommy, my son did live in Metairie. My opinion is - Don't throw them away. Think about it, they do not make em anymore. Of course there is repop stuff, but nothing is like the original. If you cannot sell them quick, maybe you have room to store them somewhere. Our grandkids or great-grand kids might really love to have them.
I am working on a 57 Bigbolt, and I am even saving the bad parts, thinking someday just a bad part might be rebuilt. I have already put back a bad master cyl. all the wheel cyls. vacuum wiper motor, electric 2-speed rear motor and lots of small stuff. Actually they can be packed-labeled, and will not take up much room. Just my opinion,,,,

I've found that now my build is basically finished I have kept some of the old stuff and actually have bought the repair kits and put them up in a safe place. They will not get any cheaper and who knows, someone may decide to not carry them anymore. I have a set of drums that I've blasted, painted and have even been turned. At the time I paid 5 bucks each to turn them. Now its 10 and some places 15 just to get that done. I'm sure you get the idea.

The only place my stuff goes is to help other bolters

Register over on the VCCA chat site and post them in the parts for sale forum. While they are now letting modified vehicles in the club most still prefer original stuff.

Does anyone have any idea on interchangeability of the parts?
- Are the drums unique to the front/ or to half ton as example?
- Is the master cylinder unique to year?
- Same questions on the wheel clyinders....

I figure it it better to use our knowledge and helping whomever might buy them understand if they will or will not work

As to space, that is pretty limited where I am on storing of it unless i put in the basement which I think might be more detrimental?

I put '57 pickup front brakes on my '46 I beam, was a bolt on swap and now I can find parts anywhere vs Huck stuff.

I have tried to sell my leftovers from disc swap for years. No luck. Mine was the kind where you used the old hub, so my old drum is hub-less. It's all good stuff to keep as mentioned. You never know. Some of us have been known to buy more that one old truck, you may also do that. There are little brake bits that are not repro'ed in those "leftovers". I have learned the hard way, never throw any part away.. Build some shelves.

Today when I had the 3100 out and about, a fellow followed me for the last 3 miles of my cruise and pulled in my driveway behind me.
So I stop and get out and he gets out and says he saw me out and wanted to see the 49 3100 up close as he was rebuilding a 48 3100. I said sure and we started talking as he was checking it out.
Long story short, the convo went to parts he was needing and it just so happens that I had many of them squirreled away in my shop taking up space. We struck up a deal that left both of us smileing
Even beat,bent up and ripped up parts have value to someone. Many would rather rebuild/redo old OEM than buy new repos.
So don't throw 'em away.
