I was recently told that my '52 half-ton with the "regular" rear window is more rare than the 5-window. I always assumed the 5-window was the more treasured/rare. Can anyone shed any light on this?

not likely known Dave, I doubt anyone has details about how many of each were produced over the 8 years it was offered, and as the 5 window was the 'deluxe' version, I'd say it was the opposite - but the 5 window is probably most 'popular' now

Wasn't the corner window glass an option "other" than deluxe cab? I was thinking that Deluxe cab was more chrome knobs, chrome dash plates, ect., but not the windows?????

The 5-window cab was available in some (but not in all) Advance-Design years (47-55) as it's own option (it was also available in all years as part of a deluxe option).

The deluxe cab (or, just the 5-window cab), being an extra cost option, was less common than the standard "3-window" cab (but, this cannot be proven with GM documents).

as the 5 window was not the "standard" cab, I'd call it deluxe - either way, how many farmers or tradesmen would opt for anything that cost extra - easy to even find a lot of old trucks without a heater, about the most basic of options .... folks have to remember these weren't status symbols, they were working mens trucks, expected to "earn their keep"

My understanding so far is, the deluxe cab (5 window) came with stainless inside door trim, wheels painted body color, and chrome trim on the windshield frame. Im sure there was more to it, but this is what I see every time I find a 5 window, including the larger trucks. Bill is right, there wouldn't be any years where the 5 window outsold the 3 because these trucks were sold for a purpose. People in the south disliked the 5 window because it just made the inside that much hotter. The value of the 5 window is apparent in trucks 1960 and beyond.. there weren't any! Quite a novelty in its time tho!

.....because there were lots of WORK trucks built there is some irony in this. The work trucks got used up and so there are more of the 5 windows around today because those who bought 5 windows were probably able to "baby them" more that others. The work trucks got used up, and the deluxe got to sit under the shade tree!!

I was incorrect above, when I posted that the 5-window option WITHOUT chrome/bright-work components was not available in all A-D years.

The 5-window option was available by itself (with no chrome and/or stainless other parts) in all A-D years as RPO-387 Rear Corner Windows.

Well, thanks for your replies. That makes sense now. I assumed that the 5-window, being an option that obviously cost more money, would be the "rarer" version. But, the old-timer who told me that the "standard" cab was rarer probably meant just that. Probably, most of those old standard cab trucks were worked to death (particularly here in the Deep South). He may have meant that more of 5-windows have survived. Just guessing, but he is older than dirt, and has restored quite a few of these old trucks and still stays busy rebuilding engines for a living.

When my dad was building his '52, he found documentation stating that the 5-windows were more common than the 3-windows. I'm not sure where he found it and if it was just for that year. All I know is he did find info to show that they were more common.
