Got all but two of the screws out of the access panel on the door. I'm soaking those two with penetrant now. Can't get the nut off the vent window assembly shaft without getting access through that hole. So, for now, I'm in a holding pattern. I've got the replacement glass for both sides, so it's progress even if at a slow pace!

Good work.....say, you met the B.C. bolters yet? Been to Mission Springs? | | | | Joined: Feb 2001 Posts: 1,096 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Feb 2001 Posts: 1,096 | I've been tinkering with the ride quality of the truck with the slide on camper on board.
So far I've added a rear sway bar, shortened up the overload springs and today I added larger load capacity tyres.
I have the 15" 'artillery' rims as original fit and the heavy duty tyres are 16" .So I had the 15" artillery center cut out and fitted into a 16"x7" well base rim.
The improvement in truck stability is GREAT. (I'm a happy camper now , LOL) | | | | Joined: Oct 2005 Posts: 4,168 "Hey! I sound like Darth Vader!! | "Hey! I sound like Darth Vader!! It's been great having the bed removed while working on exhaust, emergency brake cables, shocks, etc. Today was able to start shaping the boards that will fill it in again. | | | | Joined: Jan 2012 Posts: 162 Wrench Fetcher | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Jan 2012 Posts: 162 | Replaced a broken leaf spring and installed a new 3" dropped axle on my 52 'burb. axle | | | | Joined: Feb 2013 Posts: 34 Wrench Fetcher | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Feb 2013 Posts: 34 | Completed my fuel pump installation and took a successful test drive. Yeah, I know, a fuel pump is not a big deal, but for this new guy it was a significant milestone working on the motor. I'm pleased that I was able to determine the problem, order the right part and successfully install it, with assistance from my wife (she held the work light) and the advice of several folks here in the forums. My truck now idles smoothly, accelerates with ease and doesn't stall out.

Reinstalled the thermostat housing & water outlet complete with new Fel-pro gaskets. I installed new upper & lower radiator hoses and a brass 5/16" nipple with barb to the inlet side of the new fuel pump to attach the Jerry can to. Soaked the carb in Berrymans Chem-dip, then after blowing out all the passages with the new blow gun from HF i rebuilt the carb with a kit from NAPA. Still trying to find an original carb insulator. Then I finally got around to prying open the glove box. Man, there was a lot of junk in there!!!

Fun!
Hope to have it on the road for shake-down runs in a couple weeks...

For now I rewired the front parking lights for use as tuen signals but will probably add dual element sockets and have both parking and turn signals out of them. I'm wanting to stay close to stock but I consider this a very important and necessary mod for driving in my area.....
Also added a fuel bowl filter to the carb. It's already catching crud from the tank, definitely worth it's price. Dave | | | | Joined: Oct 2005 Posts: 4,168 "Hey! I sound like Darth Vader!! | "Hey! Too late to hit the store so i'll hopefully get the correct one tomorrow. Will need to run minus kickdown 'til I get the adapter bracket. Also awaiting the arrival of an HEI distributor to replace the one I discovered was bent.Thank you Neal! Small wonder the truck actually ran at all!!

Carb is off a amc 258.stock intake and exhaust and a gm250 hei dist.thing scoots along very nice. Smooth idle with the hei and nice response with the carb.ran a 1bbl carter for years nice carb esp with hei dist. But I like the 2bbl better it is a carter s well. | | | | Joined: Nov 2012 Posts: 543 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Nov 2012 Posts: 543 | Got the cyl head back from the machine shop yesterday. Looks really good but expensive. In the cleaning process on the block it was obvious that much rusty scale still remains in passage ways that cannot be reached and cleaned w/o removing the block and flushing it while upside down on the rack...so today that starts. The cyl walls no longer show the cross hatching but there are no vertical lines and it does not smoke so hoping the cyl's and rings are OK...I just cannot afford a full tear down and rebuild.

It's just getting better and better...even the trans is shifting smoother too thanks to the healthier vacuum signal to the modulator, all in all i'm a happy chappy!

Seems he did a full customize on his 50 and wanted those old parts gone. Well, it's best to describe it as a veritble good mine find for what I needed Needless to say I took those parts off his hands and started bolting things on last night. I now have a very nice chrome grill, chrome front & rear bumpers (front has custom bumper gaurds), like new condition seat, new gas tank, very nice condition emblems (all of them), dual tail lights, turn signals, windishield & door glass to replace my busted glass, matching door side panels, working door hardware nice aftermarket baby moons too and a couple boxes of all kinds of goodies I've yet to go thru. I'll have to post some pics later. Dave | | | | Joined: Oct 2005 Posts: 4,168 "Hey! I sound like Darth Vader!! | "Hey! I sound like Darth Vader!! Joined: Oct 2005 Posts: 4,168 | Holy cow smith! Salvaged the spindles, springs and lower control arms out of the 84 S-10 front end that I got out of my local junkyard. Calipers and rotors are junk so I will have to buy rebuilds or new ones. Took the salvaged parts to the sand blaster. Next step is to pull the front clip and after that pull the engine and transmission. Looks like a long project but it should cure the front tire wearout problem and be much easier to keep aligned. I am thinking about selling it in the spring so I need to get this problem solved and I have all winter. will keep you posted on how it progresses.
