So I pulled my rear end out put hidts 4 link suspension in and I found a 338:1 gear ratio that's a lot better then 411 that i have but can you change your axels to 5 x4.75?.... My next option is ford 9 " we'll I think I found one it rusty diff is sitting in pail of diesel fuel but I can't tell for sure if its one the diff has on the case and " x " with two dots " . " on ither side of the x .....wat does that mean lol and to get axels out we just had 5 bolts on ither side then axel will come out with tires on if that helps and the diff to hold to the housing is 11 bolts

I have a 1979 nova and it was almost a bolt in except for the spring width. mine only has a 2.73 but it works fine in flat land Indiana and even moderate hills. i have been in the smoky mountains and no problems. i should mention i have a s10 5speed and in the hills i use 4th gear.

79/80 Malibu with 2.73 and runs great in my modified 37.

I have a gotten as high as 26.6 mpg. but my usual average on a long trip like KANSAS City i average 20 mpg. around town 15-16.5.

First time when the original burned up it was a 3.08 out of a 70 Coupe de Ville. With the 235 and 4 speed it was OK on flat ground but didn't have enough ratios for the hills.
Now it has a 2.73 out of a 74 Camaro and with the mildly breathed-on 350 and TH 350 it does fine. Although at 70-75 I do wish for an overdrive.

Baba, How tall are your tires? You must be running some pretty short tires to be wanting an overdrive with a 2.73...

I found a ford 9" only thing is its 57 3/4 outside to out side and wats on my truck is 62" anyone used one like this before and it worked with off set rims?

Of course it would work with offset wheels. If you don't mind the custom look, that is.

12-bolt with 4:10 and eaton posi. stock 2 piece drive-shaft matched to a tci th400 super street fighter. 18x10 weld racing evo slashers in the rear with 285/40 goodyear supercar tires. holds up fine and leaves 1/8 mile long black strips when im feeling stupid.

i have the same 74 camaro 2.73 works great.with the 5.7 vortec and mild cam it will smoke the tires till i let off. but yea overdrive would be nice.

With a 2.73, which is a rather high gear for a truck, there should not be a need for an overdrive at any normal road speed. Now if you were going for some sort of land speed record at Bonneville, that would be a different story.

I'm installing an 8.8 out of a Lincoln MK7 in my burb. It has 3.27:1 gears and disc brakes. Coupled to a T-5 and a stock 235, it should roll on pretty nicely!

I'm running a '57 Oldsmobile rear, with a '64 Olds posi unit which will run either 4.10s or 4.88s. It is 60" wide and fits the frame well, however, I will need custom offset on the wheels. It's not a cheap option, but my build is a mid to late '60s drag truck, so it fits the bill for me.

Be sure your tires are at least 30" or you have overdrive with those gears. I've got 4:10 with 27" tires. Top speed is 135 at 7500rpm. Th400 trans. Thank god redline is 8000rpm

Just blew my diff lol. Only took 12 years of abuse. Went to get burritos and thrashed the diff. Off to San Diego gear and axle on Friday.. $500 burritos lol

Using 12 bolt posie from a 75 thru78 chev sub 4x4 has 6 stud,has 3.07 or 3.08 gears.have a monza saginaw 4 spd.would prefer 3.55 or 3.73 ratio.54 pickup wih 235

Hey I have my rear end in not finding rims tires I want for it. And my trucks couple hours away I been working crazy but here's thing I'm trying do math here I found tires rims there 4.5" back spacing with 10" tires so if I'm adding right it going be 5" back spacing I have a rear end 573/4 and wheel spacers 1.25 and putting rotors on for disk brakes not sure how thick they are but I'm thinking going be 573/4 + 2.5= 601/4 - 10" = 50 1/4 from inside tire to tire can ppl tell me is it going fit in my 49 chevy pick up ?

Man that's Chinese to me. I suggest bolting it up and then measuring. Cheaper than guessing. Even if it's a few hours away. Inside wheel well-inside and outside-outside. Leave some room for body roll and suspension lift and drop. I've peeled the labels off tires by guessing things fit.
