Well my floor stomp starter in my 1953 1/2 ton has finally decided to call it a day, I have already converted to 12v and just purchased a 12v starter with attached solenoid. I'm not exactly sure how to wire this, does anyone have a wiring diagram for this application? I appreciate the help.

Hy Kent Byrne, before we talk wiring, were you using a six volt stomp starter and running it on twelve volts? Flywheels for six volt have a different gear count and pitch than flywheels for twelve volt applications, the starter drive teeth are not interchangeable between starters, or between flywheels. A six volt starter must be used with a six volt flywheel and a twelve volt starter must be used with a twelve volt flywheel. You could swap in another six volt stomp starter, if that is what you had before. There are six volt solenoid type starters, but I don't think the solenoids electrical components would last very long running on twelve. just a heads up, hope that helps.

I had my 6V starter converted to a 12V by a local independent shop for $50. Well worth it. And you get to keep the button in the floor.

You may want to check NAPA they sell this starter over the counter for less than $100 with a warranty. I run one in my 12-volt converted 50' and it has been problem free for two years.

Brad, did you have any problems with the starter gear and flywheel meshing?

No issues because it is a 6-volt starter to 6-volt flywheel. The 6-volt starter works great in this application. The part number for NAPA is 2449651 it is $80 I could not get anyone to rebuild one for that price. Comes with test specs and a good warranty. Mine works every time and still uses the stomp starter, even comes with a ss band on it. Save yourself some money over the one you have listed, with shipping (heavy) you will pay double! NAPA ships to outlets for free.
