Wheels are on! cool

http://rustyfiftyone.com/dont-step-on-my-teal-suede-shoes/

They look a bit blue in the pics. The color is called Sterling Teal and it's almost an exact match to Tiffany blue which is more of a teal color. ...hence the name Sterling Teal since, for those who don't know, Tiffany & Co is known for it's silver.

Glad I found that.

One step forward, two steps back as they say......

John,

Some possible solutions for you:
On the fan belt issue you might look for a belt the same length and width as your original. A bit more complicated for the alt.. I would try to identify an alt. that produces the same voltage and build a bracket for it. You might need to take a course in auto electrical but once done you will have a source for the next belt and alt you will certainly need.

Thanks Jim,got it fixed today.
The problem wasn't so much I couldn't get the parts at all, it was more the fact it was Sunday and the proper FLAPS are shut.
Gearheads are not as well catered for here.

I had the alternator checked out today and everything's fine, even if it wasn't I would have had it rebuilt.
Turns out the belt i'd fitted was too narrow and jammed in the pulley groove.
Switched to a wider belt of the same length and couldn't get it to fit,it pulled the alternator so close to the rocker cover it was touching.
I forgot to allow that the belt would ride higher in the groove which involved second trip to the FLAPS for a longer belt.... dang
Bottom line,it's fixed and doesn't scream like a banshee every time I rev it now....

Put the 'Burb up on jacks. Removed the driveshaft. Removed the tailhousing. Removed the improper speedo drive gear. Installed the new drive gear. Installed the tailhousing. Installed the speedo driven gear. Reinstalled the driveshaft. Installed the VSS. Gonna be tight for the speedo cable. Tranny service is next. Then more harness install.

Adjusted the valves on the burb tonight. Every one was too tight. I hope that clears the top end trouble she's been having.

I have the cab just about finished, all I need is to install the emblems that just arrive back from the chrome platers

It was a bear to get the hood to sit flat, finally had to machine the screw holes to give it more travel down

I'm working on the bed now, but the doc says he has to go cut on me to attach some tendons I tore off. So it'll sit now for most of the summer. Tough getting old....

Got the alternator refitted (I couldn't resist giving it a polish)with the new wider belt, traced a battery drain problem to the ignition switch,re-adjusted it and all seems well.
The acid test will be this morning.
Attended to some smaller issues like a rattling interior light while I was waiting for the battery to charge.

Had to do a little welding on the muffler / pipe. The band clamp wasn't cutting it. Hopefully, tonight, I can install the new knock sensor, install the O2 sensor, get serious about running the harness under the seat, make a mount for the computer. A lot to do. Like Dory says, just keep swimmin'!

Robert,
You did an excellent job. I have to say it looks great. Can you take some pics of it outside? I assume you will be installing the bed wood? (we have the same year and model truck)....

Got to the bottom of my battery drain problem,an open circuit in the ignition switch, thought it was just a simple adjustment but there's more to it than I first thought,so a new switch is required.
On a brighter note the engine's running cooler now thanks to the correct fan belt. (no slippage)

Did a road trip in the ole orange crate today now that its pretty much road worthy. First time its been out on the open road for about 5 years. Time flies when your having fun.

We took our GPS to confirm the speedometer is accurate, which it was to my surprise. I would have figured the huge rear tires would have thrown it off a bit. All in all a good first outing.

Gearing and tires produce 2000 RPM at 50 MPH in 4th gear. Which is pretty much what I had figured.

last night after i put "heads in beds", i went out with my headlamp on redlight, put on the new drivebelt (napa gave me the wrong size, went back and guesstimated a currect size), tensioned it, installed the new water pump, thermostat housing with a new thermostat, hooked up all the coolant lines, and bolted down the hood latch assembly.

wouldn't have looked like such a weirdo if i had a closed garage instead of a parking lot with a headlamp, but i don't care. i'm determined to get this thing on the road before summer ends. now that i have a stovebolt, i see them all over the road and i get jealous.

Removed and sandblasted stake pockets from LH side of bed on my 49' 3600. Also cut the top section off a half inch below the bend and welded entire new sheet metal side. Now working on fudging in a repro stake pocket on the rear end of it....

Got one of the headlight buckets pulled, sanded, painted, and gaskets put (mostly) on. Also got the rear end from the 66 half ton measured. Looks like we have a winner! Will need to move the perches a bit and get some shock mounts made up, but at least I know we're in the ballpark now!

Got the welding started on the bottom of one of the doors (the other door is fine). Ran out of welding wire frown

Also got the bed frame POR-15'd with a UV safe product they have called "Top-Coat". It's satin and went on pretty nice. Still have to turn it over and do the other side.

Also got some Fat-Mat put in the back of the cab for sound deadening and insulation.

Installed two-element sockets in the new tail lights (in preparation for a re-wire and addition of turn signals) and marked the new front cross-sill for mounting holes.

Getting ready to repair steering wheel cracks and re-paint it.

Changed the oil and replaced the filter in my InnerLine. ...got a couple miles from my house and the pressure hit ZERO. Stupid gasket on the top of the InnerLine canister didn't seat correctly. Lost three and a half quarts and I left a trail from my house to the gas station where I pulled in.

Now I have to decide if I want to dump the generic 10w-40 I added to get home and refill with the good stuff (20-50 w/zddp) or just leave it for now.

Well, after over a 100 miles on the panel I got tired of "waiting on it to change one more time" so I took my 700R4 to a tranny man I know to rebuild it. Next week I'll be taking the 350 out and putting in the 700R4. It was the dangest thing. Riding along and just waiting/wanting it to change "one more time". I like the 700 in my 37 so good I think it spoiled me.
