Started playing with the '42 dump and noticed the brake lights do not work anymore. They worked last fall when i parked her inside for winter. Checked all the bulbs, grounds, ect. Can the brake light switch go bad? Thanks, Mike.

Certainly can, the electrical contacts can corrode just sitting
and oxidation is non-conductive. Simply disconnect one of the
wires and chech continuity with a multimeter. If it well key
the multimeter it will key the stop lights.
If you need one they should be avalable for not to much from
the old truck vendors and your FLAPS might even have one or be
able to order one.

I have had very poor luck with the counterparts version, two failed in a year. So I sourced one from NAPA, more expensive but it works great and is much higher quality. Ask for part number #SL128.

Cole Hersee #8487, same but pins point down when switch is mounted

In '42 was the brake light switch on the floor or attached to the master cylinder? My '47.1 COE has the hydraulic actuated switch.

42-47 manual shows mechanical switch, although I do recall some years or models with the hydraulic switch, maybe a big bolt thing or COE?
