For helping keep this great

on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Mar 2012 Posts: 12 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Mar 2012 Posts: 12 | I have the proper bell housing now for our '50 3100, however it has a shaft for a three speed that I would like to remove. How is that done?
Thanks!

I don't understand what you mean by a shft from a 3 speed. The 3 speed & 4 speed use the same bell houseing. They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Can you send us a link of a picture?

It is about 3/4" dia. and sticks out from the bell housing about 1" | | | | | Joined: Mar 2012 Posts: 12 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Mar 2012 Posts: 12 | That is it Brad-so it is pressed in...Thanks! Now we know better how to approach removing it. From the inside it almost looks like threads.

Plus, we hate ruining anything..you never know when you might need it! | | | | | Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 3,596 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 3,596 | I would agree with grinding it off as being the least risky of the two. Taking a hammer to anything cast and 60 years old could be problematic. You see a similar pin on the SM-420 transmissions on trucks with the driveshaft brake. I have always wondered about the best way to remove them. You can see it here in this picture, don't have one of the bellhousing but they both press fit. http://www.flickr.com/photos/advance-design_parts_co/8417815389/in/photostream | | |
