Wondering if Coker is the only source to buy white wall tires? Anyone know of other suppliers?

I believe these people have whitewall radials. Diamond Back Tires I will be buying a set for my 38 Master. We have a dealer in town.

You mean wide whites? Another source is Universal.

I bought mine from Coker and an very pleased but,there are several others available on the market considerably cheaper.
I got radials for my '51 and the profile is dead on.
I had them shipped to Niagara Falls, NY and did a quick border run. I don't know how close you are to border.
I saved about $94 a tire.

Thanks everyone for the leads. It will help when comparing quality and prices. Trying to get the most bang for my buck without sacrificing quality.

I live 1 1/2 hrs to Calais Me. Border. I've also made various parts runs during the last 6 years of my 51 build. Like yourself I will buy them from the US. My application is different than a stock pickup as I have 69 Olds rear end and running 15" 5 bolt pattern rims all around. Good to hear you are very happy with yours.

If I'm not mistaken. Diamond Back will apply whitewalls to any tire of your choice.

that is funny, I looked for a long time and I couldn't seem to find tires that WEREN'T whitewall.

You might wish to reconsider the purchase of the Coker wide whites. Close friend had one completely delaminate on right rear of a '55 210 driving normal highway speed. Completely tore out inner fender and did major body damage. No satisfaction from Coker. Could be just an isolated incident but thought I'd pass the word along, especially at the price of their tires.

I watched an episode of American Streetrodding just last nite, and there was a guy on that had done a 58' Delray on the cheap. He was running wide whites on his car and said that if you use any raised white letter tire, and scrub off just enough of the sidewall, that under all that rubber, you will end up with a set of wide whites. Not saying I approve of the method, but if you'e wanting to do it on the cheap, that couldn't get any cheaper. Anyone else ever heard of this?

I know a guy that had a place down in San Diego
skin the black side wall off, to get his wide whites. He has them on a 59 vette. They look fine, if you have a garage hound that only goes to a show once a year, may be alright, since they will go bad wether you drive them or not, but I wouldn't do it for a normal driver. One thing about factory wide whites, they usually have a raised ridge around the outside of the white, to keep you from scuffing it. On a side note, a friend of mine had a Coker tire break the radial bead in one of his tires. Cokers first question was if he was running the recommended 35 psi. in the tires. He was running normal 32. They replaced it, but said you have to run the stated pressure. He's put about 60,000 on his 60 vette since, with no more problems.

Unsafe and illegal. There's DOT required markings on the sidewalls of tires that if removed, make the tire illegal to use on public roads. Nevermind the fact that by doing that, the tire sidewall is weakened.

.....and if you watch tire ads in some of the publications you'll find in some of the small print that they are Cokers. Not many folks actually molding tires these days.... but its the molds the manufacturer has that let you buy a "brand" but actually made by the same folks. Awww, heck, you guys know how this works.
