Hi Everyone...

Looks like I have added another truck to my collection. This is a 1965 Chevy C30 Dump Truck. This will be my workhorse for working on the other trucks and also around the house. This truck has already hauled 2 yards of RCA, 3 yards of mulch, a yard of firewood, 500lbs of scrape steel and a few other loads.

I bought the truck from the son of the original owner here on Long Island. This was the first and only 'New' truck the father ever bought! They used it for various jobs including a landscaping business. The truck was sitting in their garage since 2002. The son was using Craigslist for several years trying to sell her. I have been watching her for several years. The first attempt to contact the seller did not pan out, but obviously, the last one did.

I took the truck home and the first thing I did was take off the old sides used for the landscaping business. They were an eye sore. I then went to work getting her to run and stop properly. There is still more work to be done, but for now, she is working again.

I have replaced all 6 tires and rims. The old rims were size 17.5 which are hard to find and expensive when you do find tires. The old tires looked good, but had flat spots in them. I cleaned up the rear frame and bed and painted them. The bed is clean as it was replaced. I also put on an old tool box under the bed. I replace the rear lights with original lens. I love those old big red eyes in the back! The engine is a 292 that was installed new back in 1977. I replaced the exhaust to help with the output and rebuilt the carburetor to improve the input.

Nice looking 65 c-30. Looks like one heck of a serious bed on it. Nice score. You just need a c-20 to round out the collection.

Thanks Jon...

I think I have enough trucks for now... I can only drive one at a time and I seem to have a growing list of projects of repairs.

Hey Guys...

How do I get this listed in the Gallery? I forgot I even listed this and just assumed it would be listed in the gallery.

I'm sure the gallery people probably have it on their list. They do it in their spare time so be patient with them.

How can I confirm if they do have it on their list? It has been 10 months since I listed it...

Bronco, this may help.

I'm not sure who is helping Peggy with the Gallery submissions but I do know they will get them in there. That is a volunteer thing so I guess they do when they get a little time. Seems I remember someone volunteering not to long ago to help....but gosh, they probably have a ton to do....be patient.

Since the link to the picture hosting site doesn't work anymore, I figure I would include some of those pictures here...

Here are a couple of pictures from 2011 when we picked the truck up from the original owners. In the 1st pic, from left to right, my friend Ray, the original owner who bought the truck new, his son (who sold the truck), and my good friend Dave, who towed it home for me!! He even got underneath and disconnected the driveshaft...

The first thing I did was take all of the extra wood off the bed (1st Pic) that the son had on it for his landscaping business and replace the tires (2nd Pic) so it was safer to drive on the road. The next year, I started working on the body and the bed before painting it black to get all of the panels in one color..

The legacy Gallery has been replaced with the DITY Gallery. I'll catch up with you as soon as I am able.

The old Gallery went thru various stages as Stovebolt grew. We found less hands-on by the Staff was a better way to go. The Gallery still gets a lot of hits each month. We have a new web page showing the redirection and we were wanting to make sure the DG was ready (a lot of clean up done in there). Next step will be to get more help. wink

That's nice. Do you haul and dump with it now?

Yes... She has hauled everything from mulch, firewood for camping, dirt, Boy Scouts in the Veteran's parade, helped several people move, helped my son earn money at his car wash for his Eagle project, helped take down someone's shed, and delivered pumpkins to the local school for their Halloween festival... She is busy....
