Two weeks ago I was driving my '41 with the windshield cranked open and had something come in under the windshield and get into my eye. I was doing 50 MPH on a paved country road with nobody in front of me. It must have been a bug or bird (droppings) because two days later it was infected. I spent 5 days in the hospital after minor surgery to remove an abscess from the eye. I was wearing glasses (can't drive without them), but should have used larger sunglasses.
That open windshield is fun, but you gotta be careful

I learned my lesson driven on the freeway with the windshield open. NOT a good thing. It's kind of nice if you are puttering along less than 40, but one should still be carefull.

According to the pretty blue eyed, blond doctor I should be "just fine" in another week or so. We generally don't go over 40 mph unless somebody is on our butt, and that air coming in is great when it is 95 degrees or so, like it's been this year. But, thinking about it, that type of ventilation was designed for low speeds. If your truck is geared for freeway cruising, close that windshield! That's like riding a motorcycle without goggles or a face shield! I learned that a LONG time ago.
