Got my $20 gas tank all fitted up. Welded up some brackets and put a high pressure pump on the sender to feed my 5.3. Now it is time to strip it down and get the frame blasted and ready for por-15.

Brought home the possible new 235 for the 37,it supposed to have less the 20,000 miles but is a little dirtier then I was hoping on the inside. Going to make something so I can fire it up and see how it runs before putting it on the stand,I am going to tear it apart this winter to check the condition and hope to get by with just a reseal.

It has been sitting for over a year now and I have a hankering to get him back on the road.

Well, I got all of that done today and got it fired up and running, at least for awhile. Never could get the idle set just right, it would be a bit too high and when I tried to adjust it it would fall off too much and stall out. Finally quit about lunch time at which point I had to keep a little throttle to it to keep it running and then it just shut off. Figured it was out of gas so this evening I went and filled up my 5 gallon can, came back and poured that in and still couldn't get the engine to fire up. Looked at the clear inline fuel filter and it was almost dry. Guess I need a fuel pump now and am wondering if that was why I couldn't get the idle adjusted properly.

I finally got it shifting right again.

I had transmission problems with the burb so I had a shop work on it. I got it back and it wouldn't move in reverse. The guy told me to bring it back so I pulled it again. Once I got it out I realized it's a linkage issue. One of my shift rods had a threaded adjustment. The threads were worn where the chilibob is and instead of going into reverse the chilibob would slip on the threads.

I got the tranny back in and tried to adjust the rod to new threads but there wasn't enough throw in the shifter to work that way. I went out to my parts trucks and found a clamp on chilibob. Works as it should now.

I also put lock washers under the nuts on my axle U-bolts. Last Sunday as I was leaving the Inliners meeting a guy noticed my shock hanging loose. I had lost 2 nuts. I limped it to two different auto parts stores and neither had 1/2-20 nuts. I ended up pulling one from the other side and came on home with 3 to a side.

While I was under there I gave it a grease job.

I'm going to Kansas City, Kansas City here I come.

I started to install sound deadening mat throughout the cab,the difference is amazing especially on the roof.

Cletis, I assume this was directed at me. I wasn't asking a question, just stating what I had done today and wondering to myself if the idle problem was fuel pump related. I wasn't expecting an answer. Sorry if it seemed I was asking for guidance.

I cut the rusty bottom out of the passenger door on my '59 project and then cut the patch panel to be welded-in. I might install the door mechanisms while I have some additional access. Then will come my first ever time to weld anything... wish me luck!

With the weather what it is in Scotland you won't have a problem, but here in Texas where summer could find a 110 degree day I would remind folks it would be smart to insulate against the heat on that roof. I used SolarShield and can really tell the difference.

Got a bit more done on the stake sides over the weekend. Added a removable board over the gate that slips in between the end pieces and is held in place with removable 1/4" pins. ...I'm pretty proud of the whole shebang. Came out pretty nice for eyeballing the entire thing.

Still needs a couple flat washers, lock washers all round, a bit more sanding and a few coats of varnish.

Jim,i'll probably overlay the pads in the roof with some form of heat reflective insulation anyway, if only for the soundproofing and condensation reduction.
Maybe even for the odd day or two when it breaks 70 degrees! ohwell

This is the heat shield material I used.

heat shield

It is a heavy felt like fabric under the foil. I bought it on ebay.

jockbolter50, that truck looks cool withe fenders off too. With the heat shield, what do you put over it? Is there a material like the headliner that covers the entire enterior?

Jockbolter50, Thanks

Super55,
There are metal panels that cover the inside, except behind the seat and the headliner areas.
I am also using it in the doors, on the inside of the firewall and under the future carpet.
The truck sits way too tall for leaving the fenders off.

I have an AD, a 1948, that I bought the Eastwood product for when Eastwood was having a sale. I am going to do the cab, including the area behind the seat. I think I'll try to find a suitable material that isn't too flimsy to cover the insulation where the headliner and floor mat don't cover cover.

Wayne's cleared that one up,it's his truck after all.... thumbs_up
The AD series trucks have the fixed inner skin around the rear window.
The headliner will hide the roof insulation but i'm still not sure what to do behind the seat.

I found a sheet of thin white plastic that is textured on one side that I'm using for the headliner, behind the seat and kick panels. It should accept paint well and let me glue my cow hide to it for the headliner.

Going to pick up my drive shaft in just a little while. Should be riding by tomorrow. I've got to adjust the brakes and replace the pinion seal. The new one wasn't right so it leaks.

Nice! I was thinking of doing the door panels and headliner in an old tan and white steer hide floor throw rug thing I have that has seen better days.

Went over the nuts and bolts on the 37 today. Adjusted the carb, greased it up good, changed oil and checked all lines and filters.
Plans are to make a run to Ga. this weekend for a "gathering". All I need now is to wash it!! Woog, I'm on my way!!

Also got my tranny cover from a fellow bolter and have it about 75% ready to paint or POR15. Another day gone....but another one coming smile

Kids first day of school, so drove them to school, took day off, and .. since i had a few hours to play with...

Took head of my 216. Note to self: head will not come free unless ALL bolts are off. PO did nice job of painting over grease. ... Pistons looked pretty good; scrapped "loose" carbon off top with razor blade, degreased, more cleaning tomorrow. .. of course i sheared bolts off manifold (exhaust to muffler pipe, and exhaust to intake.,). Going to leave that to machine shop as I can never extract sheared bolts. Good day.

I started cleaning up the 'burb with CLR, Scotchbrite and elbow grease then applied lemon Pledge. It makes a difference.

When I was a teen I worked as a delivery boy. We had two vehicles that I drove; one was one of the first Ford Econolines and the other was a 1954 Chevy panel truck. It seems to me that they must have made a bunch more panel trucks than Suburbans but we don't see them now. Just wondering...

Changed the oil in Olblue.. really needed to be done so I put in 10W-30 as the local stores didnt have the standard SAE 30... It feels good to have clean oil in there but my hunch is the lower viscosity will smoke more at start up..
