It has been misfiring at times, and left me on the side of the road the other day. I have recently installed new points, condenser rotor, distributor cap, coil, spark plugs and spark plug wires, but it is still acting up. I just noticed that the dwell angle is not constant. It ranges from 27 to 30 degrees at idle.

The distributor is like anything else mechanical, they do wear out. Try moving the shaft( front/rear, side/side) and see if there is a lot of movement. If so probably need to replace it. There are bronze bushings in the housing that wear over time.
