ordered the brackets from 5th avenue, they seemed a little cexpensive ($65), but they made the job soooo much easier.
remove the old generator
remove old brackets
tape up old wires
install new brackets(move the upper bracket up one water pump bolt)
install new alternator
I ordered the DA plug with the brackets (15 dollars)
I added a high output 180 amp unit that I bought else where, it is the standard 70's-80's chevy alternator, with the correct pulley alreaedy on it
run the red wire from da plug to the positive battery post on rear of alternator
run 1 4 ga wire from the same post to the positive battery post
and last I ran the yellow wire from the da plug to the green wire on the firewall mounted resistor.
It was actually very easy

I think this added safety precaution would be good insurance.

I don't think you want a fusible link on the 8 gauge wire from the battery ... all the connections to the terminal blocks each have their own fusible links -- same difference; better sense.

How many amps does it need to handle? I need to install one in my truck as I am getting a slow discharge back through this wire when the ignition is off which drains my battery after sitting for a while unless I disconnect the connector from the alternator. Thanks for your help. Great website you have there.
