Patched the floor under the gas tank and primed. I'll take a rattle can to it and paint it with some rustoleum that I have then I can put the gas tank in.Larry

Still working on the back of the truck. I mentioned previously that I welded up the stake pockets. Since I'm not going to use tailgate chains, I wanted to fill the void on the tailgate. Cut a piece of angle iron and welded it right up. Turned out pretty good.

It's just a crying shame that a guy without any real training can pick up a welder and do this kind of work.

Did not do it all today but this week I got the 4 link in and bolted in the gas tank. Now I've decided to move the rear cross member back.

I got to spend Father's Day (well, part of it) for myself and finally got the front grill to fit and now can tighten up the front end!
It's taken weeks to get to this point. A big milestone at my house!

Put brakes on the truck. Bought me a used home brew kit so now I can have adult beverage of my own making while working on my truck and tractors.

Took me 12 months to find enough original 16" steel wheels in good shape, have them sandblasted and powdercoated, and finally (today) track down and mount four used LT215/85R16 tires on them. Here's the finished product. Worth the effort and time, I'd say.

Thanks Jim. I'm a far better grinder than welder but at least the welds hold.

I wet sanded most of the drivers side and buffed all but rear fender. Need to flatten a little more. It's looking much better. I also Scheduled an appointment to have the exhaust put on Thursday. Hoping to have everything done by then ( I have high hopes:)) my father in law laughed at me because he thought it looked awesome as is. Gotta get rid of that little bit of orange peel. Guess I might be too picky!!! LOL

Those look good. I thought about having the same thing done to my originals.

Your wheels are looking great, although I find it quite ironic that my truck (originally from Ca.) had the elusive 16" wheels you spent so long looking for.

I couldn't give them away here in the UK.

I would have gladly given you them,it's just a shame you're so far away, now that would've been quite a round trip for those wheels.

Talk about selling sand to the Arabs! grin

Got the front fenders, gaskets, grill and strut rods refitted.
I wasn't entirely happy with the hood to cowl fitment,so I stupidly loosened the hinge to cab bolts,I had forgotten to remove the springs.....
Oh well...... back to square one!

I'll enlist the help of my brother in law this weekend and whip it back into shape.

^ Hey jockbolter, I think I asked you this on the HAMB too but what brand of paint did you use for the chrome look?

Also, I FINALLY GOT THE DANG REPOP 6V HEADLAMP SWITCH!!!!
...been waiting almost eight weeks (cancelled two back orders and finally found it available only to have the order held up by a back ordered ground strap I added on a whim to the final order).

Yes you did but here's what I used Hycote Chrome Look and like I said on the HAMB you need to get it nice and warm and shake the living h*ll out it to ensure good mixing.
Not sure if you'll get it in the USA but I imagine if it is available,it's something the likes of Autozone might sell.

It'll never be chrome but it's a good stop gap.

There was a paint I used a few years back called "Nearest thing to chrome" it was really shiny, only problem was it was really soft and you couldn't laquer it.
This stuff seems to be a bit better.

I know it's been a while...
This weekend I put everything aside and hit a lick on my '59 truck project.
The end result, I have polished window crank and door handles at the ready for assembly and I painted the hood latch panel, radiator, radiator support, grill bracing, battery tray, hood brace and hood latch plate.
Steps forward always feel good!

I finihsed wet sanding and buffing the truck. I did all the detailing/cleaning to the outside of the truck. I did one last brake adjustment seems to be correct now. Dropped my exhaust and made a heat shield and installed to protect the finish on the wood. I will begin to clean under the hood tonight. I hope to paint my seat aprons and lower hinge covers tonight.i need to get my trailer out and inspect it so I can take it to the St. Ignace show in Michigan this weekend. Been sitting for a few months.

Not a lot done,i did drill out some stubborn bolts at the rear bed crossmember and replace them with stainless equivalents.
Finished bolting the front fenders on and spanner checking all the nuts and bolts on the chassis.
I need to get a grease gun to pack all the front end ball joints etc.
I need to replace the track rod rubber boots (again) they're perished and split, and the dang thing hasn't even been driven in anger on the road yet!

The new paint see's the light of day....

Pulled the truck out of the shop to change the oil on my daily driver. If the insane heat ever lets up I can do the color sanding...

I pulled the inner fenders out of storage and cleaned/painted them. Still moving forward feels good!
Next I'll paint the underside of the hood and the associated parts and reassemble it.
Meanwhile, I'm looking at the cab still mounted on the frame in the driveway and feel the anticipation and excitement of the day I pull the cab off and bring it in the garage for a full teardown and makeover!

Busted out the POR-15 (and a mask!) and got the underside of the rear fenders painted.
I'll fit them later on today as I also received my fender beading this morning.

Thanks, it's a paint called Hycote Chrome Look,as I've found out it's not a particularly 'hard' paint, plus you can't laquer it.
I bought it to try on my grill,i'm happy with the results and time will tell how it lasts.
