Hi guys,

I am just finishing rebuilding a 56 235 for my 59 3100, and I need an exhaust recommendation. It will have a stock intake and exhaust, with a Patrick's 264 cam. Can anyone suggest a pipe diameter and muffler? I would like to get the most out of the cam, with maybe a little louder exhaust, but still be able to hold a conversation in the cab.

I don't want dual mainly due to the cost of the manifolds/piping. Double the pipes=double the cost.

2" will be plenty of pipe for your engine. Stay away from the hollow mufflers like Flowmaster. I like the DynoMax brand, they flow good and have a deep rumble to them. A straight through muffler will be pretty load and rap a lot. Use 2" tail pipe and you will be happy.
If you like the sound of noisy 6 cylinder, go with 1 3/4" pipe with the muffler right up under the cab and the longest tail pipe you can get, your neighbors will love you!

I agree with Joe's assement totally.
On my panel,because of the gas tank and spare tire location I put a single exhaust on it. I am running a 305 engine but still used a 2" single exhaust and it breathes good. I did not use a Flowmaster but did put a "soundmaster" on it which is the about the same thing but a lot less expensive. It has a deep throaty sound but still not to loud even with the V8. I think your making a wise choice for your vehicle.
