Do I need to reduce the voltage on the wire coming from the starter going to my my amp gauge? I don't think so, mainly because that is the primary power feed for everything else. But then will my amp gauge read correct?
I have a power wire coming off the ignition switch that goes to my temp gauge that pig tails up to my gas gauge. I was thinking I would reduce the wire coming into my temp gauge to 6v and then the loop that goes up to my gas gauge will be 6v. Anyone see a problem with that. | | | | | Joined: Jun 2004 Posts: 8,597 Riding in the Passing Lane | | Riding in the Passing Lane Joined: Jun 2004 Posts: 8,597 | The amp gauge will be OK unless you use a high powered alternator. The best thing for the gauges is the Runtz resister. It needs one for each electrical gauge. I thought the temp gauge was a capilary tube. The Runtz is available at most specialty stores. They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. They will not work with the Runtz resistor. I havent tried it without the resistor yet and the 6 volt sending units are nearly impossible to find to accurately match the GMC gauges.
That just leaves one needed for the gas gauge.
Amps are amps regardless of voltage. It could be 1 volt or 100 and it wouldn't affect the amperage.

One for each. Cost is about .89 cents (or less). Face the Silver Stripe away from the gauge and you are good to go. Do not do this for anything but the gauges.
That is what this is: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Dash-Gauge-Voltage-Reducer-12-6-Volt-Runtz-Diode-to-resistor-b-/291161623894?hash=item43ca95cd56:g:wM4AAOSwfcVUEzHN&vxp=mtr | | |
