I since have replaced the above with a 327ci and a turbo 350 tranny. The porblem I have now is that the driveshaft is to long. If at all possible I would like to get rid of the two piece driveshaft for a one piece. Is this possible? Will a one piece from a later model truck with a 127" wheelbase work?
Looking for help! | | |

The drive shaft was a single piece, I don't know where the previous owner got it. I still have the drive shaft. I know the drive shaft won't fit my current 63 C20 with aA833 too short. Hope that doesn't muck thins up

I am dropping in a 331 Hemi with a Chrysler A727 transmission. I also questioned going with the one piece driveshaft but was advised to stick with the two piece unless I wanted to get in to pinion angle issues. From what I've been told, the front section will need to be shortened and the back section will stay at it's original length and sit at the same angle from the center carrier bearing as stock so pinion angle will not change.
Whether this is true or not is beyond me... that's why I am paying a guy who knows what he's talking about to take care of this part of the rebuild.

When the single piece drive shaft was too short, I had the two piece drive shaft shortened. I called a local shop that shortened drive shafts. The shop told me to measure both trannies and find the difference. I measured both trans found the difference. Took the shaft to them gave them the difference. Picked the shaft and it installed with out a problem. I've banged the trans pretty hard more than once and no problems.

The driveshaft has to go through that big crossmember that the trailing arms attach to. I don't think you would have much range of motion with a single shaft. Scott | | |
