Hats off you ya's. I finally after tormenting a gentleman for this truck over the past year did he call me and I have now bought a 1951 GMC 9300,all orignal with the 6 volt system was restored 5 yrs ago and just used around a condo complex to pick up leaves and branches. It did sit outside tho and not used for the past 3 yrs. But she is now home in a loving shop. I got it turning over and wondering really about switching over to 12V for the reason that the old 6V wiring doesn't make me feel safe and relieable with marrets and bare wires showing. Going to have to buy the orignal 6V anyways or upgrade to a 12V. Hope to chat to all in here over the nest several years and help out whenever I can and get helped out when I really could use it. | | | | Joined: Sep 2010 Posts: 575 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Sep 2010 Posts: 575 | Welcome firebg!
Where in Ontario?
Personally, I love the sound of the slow 6V starter cranking over - clean up your wires and it should treat you well!

Oh, the people who put this site together are the Milliman's from Maryland, great couple. Lots of others volunteer as well.
I changed my voltage from 6 to 12, not everyone calls it an upgrade though. Have fun with your truck!

I will be relying on them more and more now that I am starting to put my '51 back together. I took a thousand pictures but, there is always that one elusive detail .... I have retained the six volt system in my 51. Changing the wiring really is not related to the choice of 6 volt or 12. | | | | Joined: Mar 2012 Posts: 8 New Guy | New Guy Joined: Mar 2012 Posts: 8 | Thanks everyone for the welcomes. Sometimes there are "bargains" at Barrett Jackson with the older non modified vehicles. It should be a great show. | | | | Joined: Oct 2005 Posts: 688 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Oct 2005 Posts: 688 | Welcome to the Bolt!
