I need to add a few individual leaf springs to my 37 Chevy 1/2 ton that the previous owner removed. Anyone know of places in central TX (approx between Waco & Austin) that could manufacture and/or install them?

I don't think there any old spring shops in Austin. Ace Spring in San Antonio is the only spring shop that I know of. They looked like they had been there 100 years ago when I first started going there over 50 years ago.

Thanks. I'll take a look at them. I'm not confident enough in my truck to drive it to San Antonio yet though.

Why not use Chevy S-10 leafsprings as I did?

When mine needed to be changed and no reasonable replacements could be found my mechanic at the time suggested I measure those that came off the '37 and told me that S-10 leafsprings would fit and they did... just a thought as S-10 parts are readily available and are quite cheap... Hope that helps!

If you're willing to drive to Fort Worth, try Champion Spring on Henderson (Not Ray's on I-35).

I've only used them for spring components, but they have a good reputation for leaf spring work.

Did you have to modify them? I've never worked on leaf springs before, but I would assume that if the length, width and thickness of an individual leaf were similar to that of the corresponding original leaf on a 37 it would work. If S-10 springs will fit that would be great because I only need a few individual leafs, not a whole new assembly.

I got brand new leaf springs made at GM for my 1940 gmc 1 ton dually. GM has 3 guys that do nothing other than making the antique springs from the old shop drawings. I went through Thurston Springs in Richmond Virginia. for all 3 sets of springs it cost $1300. Dennis over there is the man to talk to.

Reference the specs TooMany2count shows under "click again", does anyone know what "working height" means and how one would go about measuring it?

If the links work, they show all S10 springs at 2 1/2" wide.

What springs are you working on? front or rear?

Joe

I made a similar post in the general forums but I wanted to reach out to the Texas Bolters in particular. I finally took my truck to Waco Spring and Brake today to fabricate my missing leaf springs, but the tech (Jerry) didn't have info on the arching for a 37 1/2 ton's front and rear leaves. I provided him the specs (that TooMany2Count links to above) but he said it was still not the info he needed; I'm sure he can figure something out on his own but I'd like to give him something definitive.

Any idea where I can find "arching" info?

Thanks,
Mike

Mike, a phone call to Eaton Spring MIGHT be of help if you talk nice to them. Worth a try.
