Need shifter knob ideas for an ugly 1955 Chevy 6400 that will soon have a Cummins diesel. It will be a lawn care hauling setup, so I would like to have something to do with hunting, guns, archery, or lawn care. No bad ideas! Funny, bizarre, or anything else!
I have been considering using a trailer ball since we do lots of towing!

How about a 20mm shell casing? Or a 37mm if you have really big hands. A nut could be brazed into the opening and then screwed onto the shift lever.

I saw in a recent isue of Ol' Skool rods where a guy welded an old .22 pistol to his shifter.

On one of my rods I welded in an old single lug lugwrench. I get plenty of comments. Or how about bending a 15/16 end wrench inti a tee shape and screw in onto your shifter. lug

If it were for a masonry equipment truck, I'd suggest a carved piece of stone with a company logo; but yours is for lawn care. How about a gnarly, smoothed down piece of antler for that hunting motif?

How about the bump knob/spool on a string trimmer? Another thought is a sprinkler head. I'm not sure of the mechanics to make it happen, but I'm sure with enough motivation, it could be figured out.

Could mount a tail light of the step side to it. Have it light up with the lights.

Take a pair of visegrips, clip them on there and call it done.

you could find an old game call and mount it like a t handle that sure would be diffrent. or for a lawn mower motive use a pull start handle you could make one yourself out of wood or metal and carve it out.

I made one out of an old Hame end (from a draft horse harness). You can get them in chrome or brass or painted black (often brass under the paint).

I made another out of a c02 cartridge of unknown origin. A trip to the local salvage yard can yield any number of cool old items that could be modified to make a shift knob.

My Dad turned a wooden one on his lathe for his '49 and is going to make one for mine too. His is maple and cherry; mine will be purpleheart with a 5-speed shifte pattern let into it.

The buttstock off of an old rifle would be cool, or maybe an AR grip. Or it would be cool to use and old revolver cylinder.

Do the barrel of an old cap and ball rifle coming out of floor straight or bent and carve a handle to your likeing out of moose antler or elk that holds a high quality pen or knive blade that slips into the barrel

The skull idea reminds me that I saw on one of the truck shows where they went to a plating company and they chrome plated an actual skull.

How about a small pickaxe head like a t-shifter?

That looks like what Jesse James at West Coast choppers puts on his bikes. I have a reproduction 1860 Colt cap and ball pistol I will nickle plate when I get around to it and use it for a shift knob

Maybe get a Japanese beetle epoxied in a ball.

There are rock (you know stones?) shops all over that sell petrified Dinosaur poo. Find a chunk you like and have a hole drilled in it for a nylon bushing with threads or whatever attachment system you want. You'll have the only one around if you hurry 'cause I'm thinking of doing the same thing, just for the PUN value if nothing else. You'd have a thousand reasons for missing or grinding a gear! Oh, it hurts when I laugh! ;>}

what about a spark plug? they're easy to find, and almost everyone knows what it is. also, it can represent lawn care and your truck. You could probably find a big one from a diesel engine.

I actually used a sawed off single barrel pistol grip shotgun in my old '64 1/2 ton on the four speed. Lucky I never got pulled over. I'm thinking about doing the same thing to my '53 if I ever put a T5 tranny in it. It really looks cool, it's just an old gun you'd never want to try to fire. Looks mean.
