Thanks guys. I really like the factory Dark Blue/Off-White color combination. We are shooting epoxy primer & DuPont BC/CC, so it will be a bit nicer and a bit more shiny, than the original paint, but I think it will look very good.

We did the shocks...protection, media-blast bodies, prime, wet-sand & top-coat. I used the factory-correct OEM GM shock paint. I had it mixed in a rattle-can at True over on Merriam Lane. They will mix any color and put it in a rattle-can for around $25.00, which is not bad, if you need a special color.

Thanks for the kind words...Super Dave said you stopped by on Friday. Sorry I missed you. Maybe you can come by again soon.

Beautiful workmanship on those rockers Tony. I sure wish I had lived close enough to have you do mine. A “highly recommended” local shop did mine several years ago and did so much damage to the truck I almost got rid of it.

The spiral-body shocks were the factory-correct shocks for the '60-'66 Chevy light-duty trucks. I assume there were other options available, that were era-correct, but this is what is indicated in the data books.

We did not rebuild them, simply comestically refurbished them. On a 3/4 ton 4x4, the shocks aren't doing much, due to the stiffness of the leaf-pack. In any case, we felt it was a nice touch.

There is a business, that will rebuild your factory cores, but it is several hundred dollars...over $650.00, as I recall. We opted for the middle-of-the-road approach.

Thanks for looking and the kind words.

Tony,

Thanks for posting up the links to this build. Question for ya: Who have you found makes the best patch panels and who do you buy them from?

Hey John. Thanks for the kind words. Since we are in Kansas City, we commonly use LMC or Classic Parts. I have found the quality, fit & finish of the aftermarket patch panels, to be very inconsistent and it is a function of whatever is on the vendor's shelf. I have found that a part, that I find to be of high quality, this time, may not be the same quality, the next time I purchase the same part from the same supplier. Once the shelf-stock runs out, it is replenished with new inventory, which is not alway equivalent, to the prior stock.

In closing, a good sheet metal mechanic, can make a silk purse from a sow's ear, so I believe the key is, to some extent, the skill-set of the person doing the welding & top-dressing of the repairs.

Well I have to say you guy's sure do good work. The K20 looks great. As I was looking through all the photos I noticed that you put some kind of material between the wheel wells and the bed side. I am in the process of putting my wheel wells in and would like to know what you used. Here is a link to some photos of my project. http://s1209.photobucket.com/albums/cc400/shortwide63/ and any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for all the kind words. It will be on display at the World of Wheels show, in Kansas City, MO at the Bartle Hall Convention Center, February 10th-12th. If you are in the area, drop in for the show.

short63, we use 3M Windshield Gasket material or Bead Caulk. I like the windshield gasket material because it comes in a roll and you can put down what you need and cut to length. The factory assembly manual shows a gasket material, but I not sure what was actually used. We have had good luck with this material & application method.

Strip caulking comes in a box with several layers of strips, divided by layers of wax paper, to keep them from sticking together. Auto paint supply stores have it, if you FLAPS doesn't.

Thanks for the compliments, everyone. She showed well and we got a lot of positive comments and a few "head-stratchers, thinking it must be a NAPCO conversion".

Glad to you and your brother made it to the show, Tim. It was also good to see Charlie, KK, Ron, Rann, Super Dave and Mega Mike at the show!

Hey Jon C. Thanks to you & Sam and the others for help with the move on Saturday. Now, if I can avoid pulling my hair out, since the shop is in utter disarray, everything will be dandy.

P.S. - Thanks for the compliments on the blue K20!
