Anyone know of places in central TX (approx between Waco & Austin) that could manufacture and/or install them? | | | | | Joined: Jan 2008 Posts: 4,963 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2008 Posts: 4,963 | I don't think there any old spring shops in Austin. Ace Spring in San Antonio is the only spring shop that I know of. They looked like they had been there 100 years ago when I first started going there over 50 years ago. | | | | | Joined: Nov 2010 Posts: 97 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Nov 2010 Posts: 97 | Thanks. I'll take a look at them. I'm not confident enough in my truck to drive it to San Antonio yet though. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2007 Posts: 460 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Mar 2007 Posts: 460 | Why not use Chevy S-10 leafsprings as I did?
When mine needed to be changed and no reasonable replacements could be found my mechanic at the time suggested I measure those that came off the '37 and told me that S-10 leafsprings would fit and they did... just a thought as S-10 parts are readily available and are quite cheap... Hope that helps! | | | | | Joined: Jan 2011 Posts: 306 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2011 Posts: 306 | waco spring and brake.i watched them make springs from scratch.

I've only used them for spring components, but they have a good reputation for leaf spring work.

I've never worked on leaf springs before, but I would assume that if the length, width and thickness of an individual leaf were similar to that of the corresponding original leaf on a 37 it would work. If S-10 springs will fit that would be great because I only need a few individual leafs, not a whole new assembly. | | | | | Joined: Nov 2011 Posts: 3 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Nov 2011 Posts: 3 | I got brand new leaf springs made at GM for my 1940 gmc 1 ton dually. GM has 3 guys that do nothing other than making the antique springs from the old shop drawings. I went through Thurston Springs in Richmond Virginia. for all 3 sets of springs it cost $1300. I finally took my truck to Waco Spring and Brake today to fabricate my missing leaf springs, but the tech (Jerry) didn't have info on the arching for a 37 1/2 ton's front and rear leaves. I provided him the specs (that TooMany2Count links to above) but he said it was still not the info he needed; I'm sure he can figure something out on his own but I'd like to give him something definitive.
Any idea where I can find "arching" info?
