I decided to sell my bias ply and go with radials. I bought Bridgestone Ecopia EP02. They have the skinny look and correct diameter. The ol' 38 ain't nervous goin' down the road, good and smooth. Much more enjoyable drive now.

How wide are your rims? I want to get new solid rims and get radials. Sizes are 16X6 and wider.

Coker makes a 600x16 radial with the same diameter and cross section as the bias ply but they are EXPENSIVE. A 185/85r16 is a close match but no one sells that size in the US that I've been able to find. Diamond Back sells a 195/80r16 that has the right diameter but is wider and could cause clearance issues in some cases.

The Ecopia is a 195/80R 16. I have them on 5" wide wheels. If you don't change backspacing or wheel diameter (as compared to stock wheels), you should not have clearance issues. I looked at Coker - but man, he is real proud of his stuff !!

Tracy, I've got to say that '38 of yours is a fine looking truck. In my opinion the '38 is the best looking pickup Chevy ever made, and yours is a terrific example.

That would be my choice too, available at tire stores that carry Coopers.

IF your rims are in good condition, you will not need tubes. I run Diamond Back Smoothies on my truck and they run great!

The set I have on my Suburban has radial-tubes and they have worked fine for over 7 years (with high speed driving).

My rims are all stock 16"x4.5 truck rims.

The Cooper dealer installed the tires/tubes and balanced them. He also recommended using plastic sleeves/protectors where the valve comes through the rim.

The next set that I buy for the 54 1/2 ton pickup I am restoring will have no tubes - these wheels are in beautiful conduction and I have had them trued and powder-coated. And, I will probably use balancing beads rather conventional weight-balancing ( here's a discussion on balancing beads).

Thanks, Ron.

Cooper's website does not list that line (Starfire SF-510 LT) and it still lists the SRM II. My guess is that their website is out of date.
