I've never seen the Dyna Beads. The Counteract Beads are glass about the size of a BB. Originally they come in pre measured plastic bags that we throw in the tire and the plastic disintegrates in no time. I have a dedicated Shop Vac for sucking them out when we take a tire out of service and we store them in the vacuum to reuse. We reuse them until we snag a sidewall and lose them. I don't keep the vacuum locked and this is how the drivers get their hands on them for personal use. I kinda figure they wouldn't be snitching them if they weren't doing some good. Counteract's main market is class 8 vehicles, but their web site lists 1/2 tonne vehicles. http://www.counteractbalancing.com/counteract/index.php I learned about them in Europe about the mid 90's.
I read most of the testimonials in the link Crenwelge posted and since I've "thrown away" a lot more money than we're talking about here I will drop a bag in the next tires I buy. If it don't work I've surely *(thrown) a lot more money than that away.

Well guys, ya gotta admit there sure is some positive reports here and most of it is from guys that don't put post BS. When you swap ideas with guys for a few years you get ot know which ones to listen to and which ones are just flappin' their jaws.
I sent a note to Innovative Balancing concerning the weights that are on the wheels right now. It's a bit cornfusing whether they should be removed or not.
weights should be removed when using the balance beads ive been running them for about ten years in everything from an s10 to class 8 trucks biggest thing is to make sure you put the correct amount in for the size of tire you have you should be able to get a chart from the manufacturer that will tell you how many ounces to use for what size tire
One thing I question is the different sites I visit that sell the different versions of the beads recommend 3-4 oz of the beads per tire for an automotive application. That seems like overkill to me. Most modern tires I buy rarely use more than two oz of weights to spin balance.

Richard, the beads are supposed to evenly distribute them selves thru out the tire more gathering where the they are needed. I'm still skeptical and will remain so till I try them for my self.
The new Cooper SRM II radials that are on the front of my truck needed 2.25 oz inside and outside of the wheel on both front tires. The rears took 1.2 oz on one side and 2.25 oz on the other side.
There are no 8.75R 16.5" tires listed on the charts at Dyna-Bead. The closest that I could find were 8.00 x 16 and 9.00 x 16 and both sizes call for 6 oz per tire. So that's what I ordered, four times 6 oz.

When you break a tire down that had the beads left in the bag, you will find it has broken down to almost nothing. We don't bother to sift the beads we vacuum out of a tire we take out of service. It is so fine that it doesn't hurt anything.
Thanks Tim and Ken. I did a little more reading on their site and they do tell you that the bag breaks down. That doesn’t apply in my case since I’m gonna squirt them in thru the valve stem.
Even though I’ve already placed my order, I'm still waiting for a confirmation as to the load that my size tire would need. I'm hoping that it would be the same a the 16" tires that were close to my 16.5". I also asked about the existing weights which they recommend leaving in some cases
I wonder what the tech has to say when he unknowingly breaks down a tire with these inside. Gotta make a mess unless he’s expecting it. I can just picture them all skating around the shop on a film of ceramic balls the rest of the afternoon.

Well just try them frist I ride bike and make a lot of miles in a year it just makes a silk purse out of a sows ears ,the bikes ride smoother and dont jump so hard over the black strip on the road , but if you are going to use them in you truck or car what I find they reckamend should be double the amount I run them in my one ton and just double the amount same in the bikes and it can be reused from tire to tire ,and tires go a lot more mileswith the beads small tires should use glass big tires steel beads they are of coure are all covered with polymeres , so check whats on the inside
Well I think some of you can understand my doubt. These six pages are not the sole source of my information. I've done a lot of reading and asking at other places and forums. I've gotten PM's and asked at truck stops and tire shops. I've still not gotten any purely negative answers more like, they work in big over the road trucks but not in stop and go situations or with light trucks or cars or they‘ve seen no difference with them or with out them. Now that they only work while your running at highway speed doesn't make any sense to me because almost everyone that is using these has to operate in stop and go traffic in and around cities. No one runs highway speeds 100% of the time. Another thing that seems contradictory is when I hear that they're the cats meow for motorcycle tires and ATV‘s. That would indicate to me that they do work on small tires, motorcycle tires being much smaller than light truck tires or most passenger car tires. My 8.75R 16 light truck tires are about 6” taller than my Triumph Bonneville tires and most ATV tires are smaller yet.
The other thing that lights up the red bulb is something that the last reply reminds me of. "Bikes ride smoother and don’t jump so hard over the black strip on the road." It only seems logical that hitting a sharp bump in the road would jar a group of beads loose and they would have to re-establish the balance each time they are dislodged. Also I can’t see how a handful of bead in a tire can smooth out the bumps in the road.
Back to the bottle experiment. Got my Dyna-Beads from Innovative Balancing Inc. in the mail last night so I have everything to duplicate the demo that they’ve posted on youtube. 1) Took my empty bottle up to 1500 rpm and it runs smooth with the drill not jumping around the counter at all. 2) Tapped two pennies to one side of the bottle and it vibrated so bad I couldn’t keep it down on the counter. 3) Poured in about a half ounce of Dyna-Beads and they made a nice even ring around the outside of the bottle but it still vibrated the same as it did before I added them. Doubled the amount of beads, one ounce, and again they made a nice even ring around the bottle but the vibration was just as bad as with out them. Let it run till the drill motor started to get hot, about three or four minutes and the vibration never stopped. Conclusion: The ceramic beads will distribute evenly around the inner surface due to “centrifugal” force and remain there till the rotation is stopped. No indication that they will gather to the light side of the vessel and even out the balance.
As you would expect, I’m even more skeptical than I was when I first read about balancing beads a couple of weeks ago. I’m really having serious doubts about contaminating the inside of my tires with these things. I’ve seen nothing the would lead me to believe that they would work other than a bunch of people testifying that they have faith in the sales hype.
Sorry guys but I think this is nothing but black magic and I really can’t see the science behind it.
Denny, You said the magic word,"science". Now let's see what someone with a PhD in physics says about this. Anyone live near a college? Drop by and introduce yourself to one of the profs and see what he or she says about these beads.
Hey there Tim L, are you on friendly terms with any of the Physics teachers or Engineering Prof's at school???? Bet this would be a simple problem for one of them and that would answer this once and for all.
Denny, no offense but I believe your experiment sucks.
I think you would need to use a smoothly rounded tube of something a bit less flexible than plastic. Also, using a drill at one end with the majority of the cylinder several inches from the center of the point of rotation, your going to have a wobble at the opposit end no matter what. Even a tire is spaced a bit in towards the center of the wheel, closer to the center of balance or point of rotation, than that of a 10" plastic bottle.
Your weight is way off. Let's just say the weight of a standard wheel and tire is at 50 pounds with say 2 oz. of wheel weights. How does that ratio into the weight and size of a plastic bottle with 2 pennies? Huge difference in weight ratios.
The size of the weight on a 30" tall tire by diameter is way off from the size of a penny taped to a small diameter plastic bottle at say 3" across.
To fix your experiment do the math and calculate sizes, diameters, and stick a rounded cylinder on a lathe where it can be centered on both ends eliminating wobble.
I fully respect all the posts and information you've provided in the past, but this experiment of yours seems completely half-assed and unlike what I'd expect from you. I don't mean to come off like a jerk, but taping pennys to a plastic bottle driven by a drill is not a scientific approach to challanging a conclusion others have made.
Again, I have no experience with this product and had not even heard of it before this topic. I stand neither here nor there, but I am a bit annoyed at your stand on this with no basis in fact.
Reexamine the science and resubmit the conclusions.

Just because I can’t see any clothes on the emperor and everyone else does, doesn’t’ mean that I’m a communist. You obviously didn't see the link to the demo that I posted last week. One of the dealers for Dyna-Beads has a short video running on youtube. It’s conducted by Evolution Cycle which is a dealer for the Dyna-Bead product. I was simply repeating the demo which they dreamed up. Really, it’s not my invention buddy, sorry. Here’s that link again:
They used a 20 gram (0.705479239 oz)weight which would be equivalent to 8 cents (post mid 1982) and 1 oz of beads. I guess I knew that someone would want to get their “2 cents worth in” so that’s what I used to off balance the demo bottle and I felt it threw it out of balance enough to prove the point. A penny weighs 2.5 grams x 2 = 5 grams for my off balance weight. I tried it first using ¼ oz (7.08738078 grams) which was proportionally the same as they used in the demo. Then I increased it to ½ oz finally 1 oz to see if more would correct it.
If it’s a PhD your after, I’m not the guy, that‘s why I asked Professor Lederman if he could check in with some of his collogues for a truly educated opinion. I’m just a poor dumb retired schmuck who is trying to apply a little common sense logic. I’d be glad to hear what the results were from your experiments.
I intended to wait until I had visited SEVERAL tire spots I know but decided to go ahead and report on one I checked with today. "Dean" worked at Goodyear, although its been several years. Maybe 10 years? He runs a frontend/tire store now for 6 years.
He states that he and Goodyear, has known about them for years. He stated they DO help in the bigger tires and the Bias tires but "according to him" they do not do the job in todays modern car with "sensitive feelings". He does not recommend them but this does not mean they are good or bad. Just HIS opinion.
My next door neighbor manages "Discount Tire Store" in Spartanburg so he my next victim for "opinions". I'm still looking, listening and asking about all I see about these.
Jeff, I wouldn't say Denny's idea/test is a scattered brain idea. He is simply reporting what he finds and if I know him like I think I do he will continue to prove, or disapprove, to his satisfaction. HE is the one that has invested probably a 100 bucks to do his own evaluation. I'm sure if he uses them in his truck tires he'll give us a good HONEST report. Thanks for guys like Denny that can do these things.

In reality automotive wheels don't spin in place, of course they can, but most of the time they roll down the road. The cycloid is the locus of a point on the rim of a circle of radius rolling along a straight line. It was studied and named by Galileo in 1599. IMHO, a spinning water bottle demonstration is nowhere applicable to the distribution of the beads as they rotate in a cycloid path.

I'll check with Physics profs on Mon/Tues next week. It will be at least 9 months (or longer) before I buy new tires, so I will not be able to test the beads for a long time. The fellow that I work with on my trucks has access to tire-changing and dynamic tire-balancing tools. I think we'll mount the tires and check to see how much weight they need and if the weight is abut equal side-to-side. If the needed weights are about equal side-to-side, I'll go with the beads alone.

I don't know why these beads work, but I have seen it myself, there definitely is some sort of science involved I don't understand. I can only guess that smaller tires like motorcycles work good due to the speed in which they spin and maybe the weight on them.
I wish Denny luck on this one, just hope he doesn't dismiss them as junk due to his out come.

YOU DA MAN Tim, that chart is exactly what I’ve been looking for!! And no, I hadn’t been there before, I believe Counteract is what Ken says he uses in his fleet. I’ve been focusing on the info that Innovative Balancing has on their site and they don’t list the 16.5’ tires, but it looks like I guessed correctly when I ordered them last Sunday. I got 6oz per wheel based on their chart for 16“ wheels. Still undecided about using them. The only negative side to them that I’ve heard from some of the replies is that they aren’t all that effective in stop and go situations which is mostly what we do with these old trucks. But……once again, the makers keep showing them demoed on small tires and say that they are effective from 8mph and within a few seconds they even out.
I still haven’t heard back from Dyna-Bead concerning the question I asked them about the present weights that I have on the tires right now.
If I can squeeze a little time in today or tomorrow I’ll try to go thru the info on Counteract’s site.

Checked my receipts, brand new Michelin 215 85R 16 tires installed, tubeless 10/15/07, Dyna Beads at home the same day. Sixteen thousand miles with the beads, I'll take pictures tomorrow.

Centramatic has been around for a long time and I started using them in the 70's. It is a Texas company, and I was a dealer for them for many years and I used them on all my equipment until I discovered the Counteract. I also have been using Link equalizers for about 30 years. http://www.linkmfg.com/catseye.html The downside of the Centramatic is that on duals with Cats Eye hoses, it is hard to keep the hoses from rubbing on the Centramatic. I still have some Centramatics on my drop and hook trailers. The beads are much more convenient than the Centramatics, but they do get lost when a tire pops. Centramatics can be reused for many ears. There is a RV park joining my truck yard, and I sold quite a few Centramatics to the snow birds that roost there during the winter. I never tried to sell any of them. Customers came to me on recommendations of friends who had them.
