Can anybody tell me what this number tells about this engine I have. The number is T0208D. IT is stamped on the front passenger side of the engine. I ran the casting number on the back of the engine on the drivers side 3794226 and it says 1958-63 truck 283.

3794226 = 1958-62, 283, 2 bolt main, truck

T0208D (engine assembly plant code);
T = Tonawanda plant
02 = second month (February)
08 = 8th day of the month
D = 8 cylinders

A date code may be cast into the block near the other casting number you gave, and give you the year the block was cast.

I looked on the front of the engine where the stamped numbers were and there were no more numbers. So I guess I cant tell the exact year the engine is.

Look near the "casting" number (3794226) on the rear of the block. Also close to the distributor hole. There is also a cast mark that looks like a clock. A series of "cast" letters and numbers will make up the date code. example B214
